I have seen Drowning Pool live a total of four times. The first time I saw them was at Ozzfest 2001, they put on such a great show that I had to go buy their cd. I was not disappointed at all when I got the album.
The second time I saw them was at the "Music as a Weapon tour." That was one of the best shows I've ever been to, and I go to alot of shows. There is nothing like being in the middle of a rowdy crowd when "bodies" starts playing. Just hearing Dave starting the song with that whisper "let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor," than the beat came in and the crowd went crazy! I was smack-dab in the center on the Electric Factory when that song came on, it was so crazy. There was a pit in front of me, and pits on both sides on me, than when the chorus came on the whole floor was a pit. I'm not normally into the pit thing, but that set just gave off a certain vibe.
Then, I saw tham again at the Jagermeister tour, and I met Stevie and Dave and got their autographs. I was so star struck with Dave that i couldn't talk to him. I just couldn't believe he was standing right in front of me.
The last time I saw them was at Ozzfest 2002. I watched most of the side stage sets. After Down's set, I went to the autograph signing table to meet Down. It took alot longer than i thought. I missed the first few bands on the main stage, which was kinda ok since I saw all the bands I wanted to see before. By the time I got onto the lawn area, Drowning Pool was already on stage. They were finishing up a song when I found a place to stand, and Dave started talking about Metallica. Which is my all time favorite band! So i got so happy. He said they were gonna cover Metallica's "Creeping Death." I got so happy, I was singing along the whole time, it was such a good cover. I 'm not even big on Metallica covers because it just ain't the same without James Hetfield's voice. But Dave did such a good job! Well, I watched the rest of the bands on the main stage, but by the time Ozzy came on, I was so tired from being there all day. My friend Kristina and I went inside and sat down, and watched Ozzy on the tv screens. I looked over towards the shirts for sale and saw a guy standing there. I said to Kristina, "that looks like Dave from rownign Pool, that can't be him" than he turned around and started walking towards the doors. I called him over and asked him to take a picture with us. He was so nice, we took the picture and I hugged him and told him how great their set was. After I walked away I realized I forgot to tell him how much I liked the Metallica cover. I said to Kristina, "i'll tell him when they come around again."
As you well know, I never got to tell him that. He passed away about a month after I hugged him. I couldn't believe it when my friend called me and told me he heard about Dave being found on his tour bus. Actually I still can't believe he's gone. He was a great performer, I know he has touched many people includding myself. He made an impact on the world of rock, I know that for sure. He will not be forgotten. I wanted to make this website in his memory, i know his memory will live on in his music and every person that he touched. Dave's spirit lives on in every person that isn't the most popular kid in high school and uses music as his/her outlet because we are all alike in that way.
My Favorite DP song - PITY
